Updated Tata Nexon EV

Tata Motors is gearing up for the launch of an updated version of its popular electric car Nexon which is expected to launch by mid-2022 with a facelift. The updated model is expected to be priced around ₹17 to ₹18 lacs. The facelift model is expected to have new interior upgrades with a new colour palette, but it might not be accompanied by exterior upgrades as speculated.

The updated Tata Nexon EV is anticipated to have an upgraded battery pack for an increased range of 400 km on a single charge. The bigger battery obviously what occupy more space which would decrease the trunk space and may also result in an increased kerb weight of the car. The charging pack might include a 3.3 kW charger with an option of a 6.6 kW charger. Already dominating the EVs market the key success factor with extended range will continue to contribute to the success of this electric SUV.

This updated long-range variant will rival the MG ZS EV, which offers a certified range of 412 km.

Tata Nexon Coupe

Tata Nexon SUV Coupe version is in development which will make its launch sometime in 2023 as an EV, while the ICE versions will follow. The new SUV is codenamed ‘Blackbird’ and as a larger version that will embody a coupe-like design, reminding you of a Land Rover Evoque’s sloping roofline.

Tata Nexon SUV Coupe will be based on the same X1 platform that underpins the Nexon. Although details about the powertrain are yet to be revealed, it is likely to get a large show 40 kWh battery pack with a range of over 400 km. Nexon Coupe’s electric motor it’s likely to be upgraded with a unit that develops more power and torque than the standard Nexon EV’s 129hp and 245Nm motor. The new model will enjoy the tax benefits offered on all EVs a flat 5% GST.

It is estimated to be launched at a price of ₹7 lakh and above, but the actual price is expected to be announced at the time of its debut.

Tata Sierra EV

The iconic Tata Sierra makes a re-introduction in the all-new EV avatar which is expected to launch in India in March 2023, with an estimated price of ₹14 lakh. This new EV will be developed on the Sigma “Born Electric” platform which has been engineered to delete unnecessary elements in an EV, like eliminating the fuel tank and adding more space for the battery. Although not much more has been specified about the exact specifications of the Sierra EV, it’s a wait and watch the game to see how Tata features the prototype Sierra shown at Auto Expo.

Tata Punch EV

Tata’s most awaited micro-SUV EV car ‘Punch’ has recently opened bookings in India and is expected to be launched by 2023 or sooner. Again, with not much details speculations over the powertrain are that comes with the same Ziptron motor as in Nexon EV which is expected to deliver a range of about 250 kilometres on a single charge. Tata Punch EV is estimated to be priced at ₹5.5 lakh onwards.

Tata Punch would rival the likes of Mahindra e2o plus, Kia Soul EV, Maruti Suzuki Wagon R EV, and Ora R1, all of the new upcoming models in the market.

Tata Altroz EV

Tata Altroz EV too is expected to feature the same electric powertrain as the Nexon EV. It is likely to offer a driving range between 250 to 300 km and it’s expected as the next EV to be launched alongside the Punch. Tata Altroz EV will be launching in November 2022 with an estimated price of ₹14 lakh. This 5-seater hatchback will rival Venue, Bolero, and its likes.

Tata’s Future Vision

Buoyed by the success of a sub-compact electric SUV the Tata Nexon EV, the homegrown carmakers planning to electrify more cars in their product line-up like Altroz EV, HBX electric mini-SUV, and Safari electric for the Indian market. The company has hinted that the entire portfolio of the company can go electric in the future.

In accordance with the same, the Tata group intends to manufacture battery cells, including localization of battery and motor by establishing a pilot plan to produce the cells in Dholera, Gujarat for use in Tata electric cars and create an ecosystem to make Tata electric cars more affordable. This mode of Tata group will result in a steady drop in Tata electric vehicle prices in the following years.
