It’s been a long way since 1970 that Suzuki has been selling Jimny small off-roader. The latest of the lot was introduced with a host of changes back in 2018.
The long-wheelbase Suzuki Jimny LWB is spotted while on a test run for the first time. This sure is a piece of happy news for many people, but it feels important to mention here that this variant was spotted out and about in Europe- lest Indian buyers get their hopes high and above rather quickly.
During an investor call recently, Maruti Suzuki confirmed its 5-door Jimny SUV Model’s consideration of being launched in India. Suzuki commenced its manufacturing in Maruti Suzuki’s plant in Gurgaon, India in January 2021 and will be built alongside the 3-door version. It is currently being exported to countries in the Middle East, Africa & Latin America.
It has been well-received in international markets mainly Europe & Japan. Jimny has been a rumour mill for launch in the Indian market ever since its debut. To add fuel to fire, the Japanese manufacturer had showcased the SUV in India during the Auto Expo 2020.

Suzuki Jimny LWB has been caught sporting a 5-door variant. A Made in India 3-door Jimny has already been selling in a few global markets. While the few spy shots reveal that the test mule doesn’t have doors for the second row, but only a glass window that is much longer instead.
This could indicate that the test mule is an extended version of the commercial spec-Jimny that’s already on sale in Europe or it could spawn a commercial pickup truck version. However, this long-base wheel version will also most likely underpin a 5-door passenger version destined for markets in India.
Gleaning from the spy shots, it seems that the car sports the same headlights, grille and bumper setup as the regular Jimny and is also running the same alloy wheels.

The other features that we can expect large touchscreen infotainment, electric OVRMs with turn indicators and more. Many of the features will resemble that of Swift & Dzire. Safety features would include dual airbags, ABD with EBD, rear parking sensors, rear-view camera, dual sensor brake support and might also include a differential locking system.
Suzuki Jimny LWB would come in fair competition with Mahindra Thar and likes, once it launches in India. Initially, Maruti was sceptical about the launch and success of Jimny in Indian markets, but with the release of Thar in the segment, with the upcoming BS6 New Force Gurkha, Maruti Suzuki has hopes for Jimny and has now ventured into the Indian market.
Jimny would be priced in the same bracket as Gypsy with Rs. 6-8 Lakhs, similar to mini-SUVs in this price range like Mahindra KUV100 or the upcoming Tata H2X.
This modern-looking pocket-sized off roader is a practical and compelling car with the manufacturer sure to be swamped with the interests of eager buyers.
