Skoda is typically known for its sedans and the new premium sedan has set the standards really high with features it has to offer. Skoda India head, Zac Hollis, had earlier confirmed the new launch of a new mid-sedan that would be placed in between Rapid & Octavia.
After running many tests on the Volkswagen Virtus, the Czech carmaker has begun testing a mid-sized sedan code-named ANB in the Indian market. Known as the all-new Rapid in Russia, there’s still some ambiguity on whether Skoda India would christen it Slavia inspired by its concept car or make an interplay with the popular name tag Rapid, or simply call it Laura.
Also, with the name in concern, Skoda had trademarked ‘Slavia’ last year, however the final judgment is still pending. Either way, the new sedan will slot between Rapid and the all-new 4th generation Octavia, which would give Skoda the opportunity to place Rapid as a roomier and a more premium alternative to similarly priced, yet smaller sub-4-meter sedans.
So, let’s dive into the features, specs, price and launch date expectations of the spied Skoda Slavia 2022, which was decked in heavy camouflage, hiding its design quite well, nevertheless, here’s what we could make out…
Skoda Slavia Features & Specs
The rendering only shows the front quarter of the new sedan by the artist based on the spy shots, while some designs have been taken from the current Rapid. However, the unveil of Slavia in the Indian market would end up looking quite different from the render.
The glimpse of Slavia test mule features smooth roofline with a visible shark fin antenna. The alloys are a tad bit simple which closely resemble the new Rapid just like the silhouette of the front bumper. It also looks like some length has been added to the rear half of the car. It has automatic LED sleek headlamps & taillamps, giving it a sporty appearance with DRLs complimenting the new look.
The new sedan would flaunt a sharper new signature Skoda butterfly grille that would come with an edgier styling than the India-spec Rapid. With all these details it significantly hints that the New Rapid is being renamed Slavia for the country.
It is expected to come with a notchback design which would increase the practicality of the car by quite a margin. This element included would make it the cheapest sedan available in the country with the feature.
The wheelbase of Slavia is likely to stretch further 49mm to 2,651mm for class-leading cabin room having boot capacity of 530L that is suggestive to be best in class. The Rapid successor would be bigger with possibly more space added to the second row.
