Maruti Suzuki has posted a teaser on its social media handle indicating that it will reveal more information about their upcoming car ” Maruti Jimny ” soon which is captioned with the following: “This just in! A wild adventurous ride has been spotted making its way through different terrains! The one question is, what car is this?”
The Jimny made its debut globally almost two years ago and it has become pretty successful since then. While there is some interest in waiting lists in certain countries, the demand in India has given quite a tough competition to the Mahindra Thar when it comes to waiting periods!
Maruti Jimny is the latest generation of the Maruti Gypsy, which was on sale just a few years ago in India. Not only does it come with 4×4 capability but it is pretty popular with off-roaders who seek something compact and easy to drive. It has been rumoured for years that the carmaker would introduce the car to India eventually, and it even premiered it at Auto Expo 2020 last year. But finally, we can hear a rush of air around us and we think what we’re hearing is the sound of desert winds!
Maruti Suzuki has already confirmed that it’s working on a five-door version of its popular Jimny. That said, the automaker says the vehicle is still in development and will not be available to Indian customers until 2022. However, looking at the success of Thar, we think there’s enough evidence to suggest that Maruti will introduce the 3-door variant first, since it is already manufactured here in India.
If Maruti does plan on launching a 3-door version of the Jimny , it’s likely that it will cost a couple of lakhs less than the already accessible as well as popular Thar. In terms of size, it is predictably smaller and for those not looking for anything extra fancy other than what comes standard in a vehicle nowadays, the Jimny should do just fine.
All We Know About Maruti Jimny So Far:
Maruti Jimny Design
Expected to arrive in India like its siblings in the international markets, the car is likely to receive an upright design. The SUV may sport flared wheel arches and rounded headlamps with fog lamps to make it stand out amongst other SUVs in India. It will come fitted with high ground clearance which will enable it to tackle Indian road conditions like speed breakers, gravel roads etc.
The dashboard will be decked out in a gorgeous touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, not to mention SatNav. The car will also come with an adorable reversing camera.
Maruti Jimny Safety Features
While safety isn’t the topmost concern in the minds of young Indian buyers, the car will also include features like lane departure warning, dual sensor brake support, dual SRS airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts, ABS and EBD. Other safety features include vehicle stability control and brake enabled limited slip differential system.
Maruti Jimny Engine
The Jimny will likely be powered by a 1.5 liter, four cylinder standard engine. It produces 101 bhp at a peak of 6,000 rpm and 130 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpms. The engine will run on a manual transmission system or an automatic transmission system which is one of the most modern technologies available to cars like the Jimny.
Maruti Jimny Price
Many car enthusiasts are excited to see the return of the Maruti Jimny. Its low price point, estimated to be around Rs 10-12 lakh ex-showroom makes it an attractive option. As for competitors, although this Maruti will go up against other compact SUVs such as the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha when they’re also refreshed next year, the Jimny won’t have a rival that directly comes in at this particular price point due to its unique and distinct style and capability of getting by with minimal maintenance costs.
