Recently uncovered news gone viral that Kia trademarked EV6 with four different models likely including standard one. Kia EV6 launch in India is going to happen likely soon. Kia has not yet announced it’s launch date.
The EV segment sky rocketing in India with home-grown automaker Tata Motors dominating the space which is soon to be followed by Mahindra. To cater to this evolving trend, the South Korean Carmaker is ready to stir the EV market in India with its new announcement of the launch of the 2022 New Kia EV6 India.
To initiate the process, Kia has filed 5 trademarks for different models – EV6, EV6 Earth, EV6 Water, EV6 Air & EV6 Light, indicating that plans for induction of EV6 in the Indian market are in full swing. The electric crossover will be launched in 4 trims- Earth, Water, Air & Light.
The first of the many electric vehicles of Kia, the brand-new electric flagship- Kia EV6 will be a crossover, built on the (Electric- Global Modular Platform) Hyundai’s E-GMP platform for EV shared with Hyundai Ioniq 5.
Even with all the excitement surrounding its expected launch, there is no official word from Kia India.
Kia EV6 Features
The EV6 will have a modern face, smooth flanks, and an expressive rear. The flared-out fenders at the back are inspired by the Lancia Stratos from the 1970s. It has deployable door handles that sits flush with the body making it the first of Kia’s to display the new opposites united design language which can be seen in the rear taillight housing and styling. Along with the new design, you will still notice some familiarity with Kia’s tiger-nose grille which is reinterpreted with a new KIA logo, large LED headlamps & unique DRL signature.
Not only on the outside, but the car is also equally sharp and modern looking on the inside with a clean cabin design, dominated by dual 12.3-inch curved screens upfront with very nice graphics. With a techy cool quotient, the car is designed to provide the right blend of information, connectivity, head-up display, ambient lighting with a floating central console with wireless charging and sustainable material used to design the interiors. The seats are well padded with front once power and ventilated and the rare outboard seats are heated. The elegant-looking two-spoke steering wheel houses the addles to set desired levels of regeneration and also has a convenience-oriented drive mode button-down front on the steering wheel.
Some of the other features include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, reversing and 360-degree camera system, remote parking assist and a whole host of safety tech including ADAS add more.
EV6 Specifications
Kia EV6 will have a 77.4kWh battery pack that powers the rear-mounted motor, generating a maximum power output of 225 BHP and a peak torque of 350 Nm. This output is enough for the car to accelerate from 0-100kmph in 7.3 seconds. Its claimed top speed is limited to 183 kmph. The car claims to cover up to 739 kilometers on a single charge. The charging time however is very long with 32 hours and 45 minutes for 10-100% using a 12-A charger, whereas a 50kW charger gives the battery 10-80% charge in 73 minutes, even faster with a 350kW charger with 18 minutes for the same charge.
EV6 is also offered with a dual-motor setup which offers 320 BHP & 605 Nm with a maximum range of 669kms. (Which may not be sold here)
Globally revealed last year, the EV sex has gone on sale in several international markets. In the UK, for example, the car costs between £40,945 (₹42 lakhs) and £48,445 (₹49.23 lakhs). However, with the model coming to India via the CBU route Kia might cut down on certain features to suit the Indian market and keep the sticker price in check.
