Jeep Junior Compact SUV with AWD and FCA’s X6H platform

Jeep ‘Junior’ Predicted to be the foremost compact SUV (with AWD). ‘Jeep junior’ has been created especially for the Indian market to give massive competition to Maruti Vitara Brezza and Kia Sonet.

This innovation is a role of product onslaught which was planned by American automaker for the Indian market. As the name suggests, It will be the tiniest SUV globally.

Not going to sacrifice 4×4 functionality. Last year, Jeep launched Compass 4xe and Renegade 4xe in Europe. These models consist of plug-in hybrid models. It has a capacity of 1.3-litre turbo-petrol. Although Gilles didn’t share many details about jeep junior, his statement to Autocar India is an evidence that the company is going to come up with something which they’ve already implemented in Europe.

According to Gilles, E-mobility has always been an issue. Hence, they came up with a solution. It replaces mechanical 4×4 hardware with the electric motor.

The confirmation has been made that this upcoming SUV known as “Junior” is going to come with AWD. Grabbing the attention by its 4-metre model. 3-row Compass was more likely to make a debut but the 4-metre model is grabbing the attention of many people.

Ralph Gilles made the statement that ” All wheel drive feature of Jeep junior SUV will be created because the carmaker will “Not just be a soft-roader”E-axle tech will be employed ”. AWD does not have any support from PSA’s CMP therefore, it has to employ e-axle technology.

This technology utilises an electronic motor to run the rear wheels with the support of an internal combustion engine. Furthermore, the carmaker is already using this technology on Renegade and Compass in Europe.

Cost is a huge drawback. Jeep junior with AWD features will cost much more in comparison to front-wheel-drive variants. On the other hand, it will contain PHEV (Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) which will make it easier to comply with emissions regulations in future.

Automatic and manual gearbox options. This compact SUV has the power of a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine consists of the both automatic and manual gearbox. It is going to give a tough competition to Renault Liger, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon and many more.

Will Indian customers pay extra for 4×4 capability?. The prediction has been made that the segment of SUV Junior is going to be one of the hot-selling cars with various other models like Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Nissan Magnate, Toyota urban cruiser, Kia Sonet, Renault Kiger and various others.

All models of Jeep Junior consist of a front-wheel drive-only. It has been confirmed that Jeep Junior is also going to fulfil this trend. But the biggest question arises whether the Indian market will pay extra for SUV Junior?.

Plenty of compact SUVs are available in the market at present and few of them are even marketing themselves aggressively. Let us know your view in the comment section.
